When a table is asked to support daily work, premium surfaces, and years of use, strength cannot be an afterthought. It has to be designed in from the beginning. For the Capri Meeting Tables, that work starts at the base.
Capri’s base is fabricated entirely in-house from 100% stainless steel. The material is chosen not only for its strength and stability, but for its longevity. Stainless steel holds up under weight, resists wear, and can be repaired and refinished over time rather than replaced. It is manufactured using virgin material, yet remains fully recyclable at the end of its life, aligning durability with responsible material use.

The construction process begins with welding. Each base is assembled by hand, with careful attention paid to alignment, balance, and load paths. These welds establish the foundation that allows Capri to support demanding use and premium surfaces, including heavy stone tops such as marble and quartz.

After initial construction, a concealed stiffener is welded beneath the base. This element is intentionally hidden, but critical to performance. The stiffener increases rigidity, helping control deflection, allowing the table to carry significant weight without compromise. It also ensures stability across a wide range of table sizes and configurations. This step happens long before the table enters a space, but it is what allows Capri to accommodate nearly any custom surface a client specifies.

Once the structure is complete, the base moves to final buff. Here, the work shifts from building strength to beautifying it. The welded base is inspected closely. Any blemishes are addressed, and the surface is refined through a sequence of grinding, sanding, and polishing. This process does not change the structure. It ensures the steel wears evenly and holds its finish over time.

Polishing stainless steel is more time intensive than applying plating or chrome. It requires patience, consistency, and a practiced eye. Cumberland chooses this approach deliberately. Polished stainless steel does not rely on a surface coating that can fail and is rust resistant as compared to carbon steel. Instead, the finish is integral to the material itself. It is more durable, easier to repair, and better suited to long term use in shared environments.
Capri bases are also available with painted finishes, offering additional flexibility for projects that call for specific colors or visual integration. Regardless of finish, the underlying construction remains the same. A welded stainless steel structure, reinforced for strength and designed to perform quietly in the background.

A strong base matters because it allows everything else to work. It gives designers the freedom to specify custom surfaces with confidence. It ensures tables remain stable through years of meetings, movement, and daily use. And it allows Capri to support a wide range of applications without asking for attention.
In the end, the strength of the Capri Meeting Table is not defined by what is visible. It is defined by the work that happens early, deliberately, and with care. Building a base that holds up whatever comes next.
